Inter patron Erick Thohir is targeting third place and admits he “never dreamed” of being President when he approached Massimo Moratti.
The Indonesian businessman arrived back in Jakarta today and spoke to local media at the airport after his trip to Milan, where he completed the buy-out of 70 per cent of the club.

The Indonesian businessman arrived back in Jakarta today and spoke to local media at the airport after his trip to Milan, where he completed the buy-out of 70 per cent of the club.
“At this moment, Inter are in transition,” explained Thohir. “Last season we finished ninth and hope this season to reach fourth or even better third place.
“I think we have an excellent Coach. I will work to ensure Inter remain consistent in the project even during this transition period.”
Thohir has taken over as President from Moratti, though the former patron and his family remain on the Board of Directors.
“It is the first time that a foreigner has become President of Inter. We must work hard to ensure we improve every aspect of the club.
“When I contacted Moratti initially, I just wanted to become his partner and never dreamed of being President. I simply wanted to be an added bonus, but he thought I was up to the task and I am enthusiastic about it. The reaction of the fans was also absolutely positive.
“In 18 years he achieved something incredible. I have arrived to give Inter a different dimension in terms of business, to help it return among the top European clubs.
“Manchester United and Chelsea have many fans and sponsors in Indonesia, so we must try to work our way into that market.
“What will change? Perhaps when Moratti was President, he was the one who made all the decisions, whereas now every decision will be made together as a collective.”
