Thiago Silva has been handed a new improved contract by Milan after Paris Saint-Germain attempted to sign him earlier this summer.

The club confirmed this afternoon that the player has been given a fresh financial package, although no further details were released. It is believed that he will now earn €6m a term.

The French giants made Milan an offer of close to €50m for the Brazilian stopper last month, as well as reportedly offering the centre-back a five-year deal worth €7.5m a campaign.

Milan opted against sacrificing the South American and his agent then subsequently asked for an increase in salary at San Siro.

In May 2011, the Brazilian international renewed his contract until June 2016.
