Fatih Terim says ‘any coach would love to work with legends like Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci,’ while he’d enjoy dealing with Federico Chiesa after already training his father.

The Turkish tactician spoke to the Corriere della Sera newspaper ahead of Italy’s opening Euro 2020 match against Turkey on Friday.

“I think Roberto Mancini has done a great job. Italy are solid and have some great players. They haven’t lost in over two years and reflect the football ideas of their coach,” said Terim.

Former Milan and Fiorentina boss Terim has no doubts over which of the current Azzurri he’d like to work with.

“Enrico Chiesa is one of the best players I ever had, so for emotional reasons, I prefer him to his son, but Federico did really well in his first season at Juventus. He’s got great potential and I hope he can do even better than his father.

“I have great respect for Chiellini and Bonucci, any coach would love to work with legends like that.”

Italy also have a great deal of youth in the side ready to break out at Euro 2020.

“I keep a close eye on Nicolò Barella, Manuel Locatelli, Alessandro Bastoni, Giacomo Raspadori, as well as Nicolò Zaniolo and Sandro Tonali, who aren’t in the squad. There are many who can make the difference for Italy.”
