The Telegraph claim Real Madrid sounded out several coaches before choosing Carlo Ancelotti, including Jose Mourinho, who had just signed for Roma.

Ancelotti was presented to the media this evening upon his return to the Bernabeu, having left in May 2015.

It’s well known that he was not the only tactician contacted, as other candidates included Max Allegri and Antonio Conte.

Now The Telegraph newspaper claims another person “sounded out” for the Real Madrid job was Mourinho.

This too would’ve been a return to Real Madrid, where he worked from 2010-13.

However, any approach would’ve been doomed to failure, as he already signed for Roma last month.

The report insists Real Madrid spoke to Mourinho ‘informally’ at the end of last week and again over the weekend, but was not interested after committing to a three-year deal with Roma.
