A teenage supporter of a Serie D club has been charged with racially abusing a referee.

Calciomercato.com reports the 18-year-old Lupa Roma ultra called Cuban official Julio Milan Silvera ‘a piece of ****, a ****** referee, a n****r’ at the end of his side’s 3-3 draw with Ostiamare.

The website explains plain-clothed police officers approached the young fan, who replied: “Why, what did I say that was wrong? He has dark skin…”

He would have then been taken to a local police station, where he was charged with ‘making racist threats’, risking a five-year ban from football.

It comes just two months after Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was targeted by Inter fans on the basis of his skin colour at San Siro on Boxing Day.
