Southampton have confirmed that they have released Saphir Taider back to Inter, just three weeks into a season-long loan.

The Saints temporarily picked up the 22-year-old midfielder this summer from the Nerazzurri, as part of negotiations that saw Dani Osvaldo move in the other direction.

However, on from rumours of having failed to settle on the English south coast and with Sassuolo ready to take over his loan situation, the player has had his exit from Southampton confirmed.

“Southampton Football Club can confirm that it has agreed to terminate midfielder Saphir Taïder’s loan spell,” the Premier League side has confirmed in a statement released today.

“The midfielder joined Saints for the 2014/15 campaign but, having failed to live up to the high levels of commitment expected of Southampton players, that arrangement has been cut short by the club.

“Taïder, whose only first-team appearance came in the friendly against Bayer 04 Leverkusen earlier this month, now returns to parent club Inter Milan. Dani Osvaldo’s loan arrangement with the Italian side is unaffected.”
