Jasmin Kurtic has spoken of his delight at standing on the verge of a deadline-day switch to Fiorentina.

The Slovenian midfielder had been linked with a move to the Viola all summer, but the recent arrival of Milan Badelj – and previous interest in Benjamin Stambouli – appeared to suggest that the club had identified other targets.

However, Fiorentina went back in for Kurtic after talks with the Montpellier man broke down, and the 25-year-old has revealed that the opportunity to join the Florence side was too good to turn down, despite Leeds United’s best efforts to entice him to England.

“Leeds? I couldn't say no to Fiorentina,” Kurtic is quoted as telling Ekipa24 today.

“It is clear that this is a big step up for my career. It is going to be difficult to carve out a place in the team, but I am ready to fight.

“I want to work hard to earn the trust of the Coach. I am very happy.”

Sassuolo are reported to have agreed to send Kurtic to Fiorentina on an initial loan deal, with a purchase option also included.

La Viola are also closing in on a deal to sign Manchester City’s Micah Richards today.
