It is thought that the former Juventus boss is new FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio’s heavily preferred choice to succeed Cesare Prandelli as CT.

A potential stumbling block could be Conte’s reported desire to be given more autonomy over football decisions, but Tacchinardi believes Tavecchio should be doing all he can to ensure he gets his man.

“I think that Antonio is the best Coach available,” Conte’s former Old Lady teammate Tacchinardi told Tuttomercatoweb.com. “Certainly, he is a Coach who must be used to the best of his ability.

“He could be a great CT but he needs to be allowed to work as he wants. I don’t see a better Coach to prepare the qualification campaign and I don’t see a better man for the finals of international tournaments.

“That being said, you can’t just think about the Nazionale in May, it’s too late then. Antonio is right to ask for more power and more space with the Nazionale.

“The problem in Italy is that we fight against the pressure created by the clubs. I hope that Tavecchio is clear with Antonio and the Serie A Coaches about this.

“If left to work in the right way, Antonio is perfect. If he is made to work like the other Coaches we will waste everything.”
