The Biancocelesti chief was a close ally of the new head of Italian football’s governing body during his successful election campaign.
However, speaking to ANSA this afternoon, the 57-year-old confirmed he will not stand as a candidate for the vice-presidency or for any other role for the time being.
“I am choosing not to run for positions of governance,” Lotito announced. “That is to say the vice-presidency or the responsibility of the Italy club.
“First the ideas and projects [of the FIGC] should be outlined, then people should be appointed.
“For the harmony of everyone in the setup, this is the right decision. The general interest and the system comes first, then any particular interests [that one has.]”
