Wojciech Szczesny was Juventus’ hero in their thrilling 4-3 comeback win over Roma tonight, saving Lorenzo Pellegrini’s penalty in the 81st minute.

The 31-year-old Polish goalkeeper has an incredible record against penalties, saving 23 of the 79 that he’s faced throughout his career, or 29.11%. Interestingly, his most recent penalty save prior to this evening also came against Roma, denying Jordan Veretout an equaliser in the Bianconeri’s 1-0 home win over the Giallorossi back in October.

Szczesny has come under fire this season by some Juventus fans for a perceived drop in his performances, but saves like the one against Pellegrini tonight show that he’s still up for big occasions, and he can certainly be the difference maker in the most important matches.

The Bianconeri are clearly struggling with consistency this season but the problems are mostly up front and in the midfield, with the defence doing well despite the team’s issues. The Polish goalkeeper has kept 10 clean sheets this campaign, and the team have only conceded three or more goals twice this season.
