Wojciech Szczesny confirms Roma’s objective this season is “to fight for the Scudetto with Juventus”.

The Bianconeri have won the title for the past five seasons in a row, with the capital club finishing second or third in three of those campaigns.

“The objective is always the same, to fight for the Scudetto with Juventus,” Szczesny told Roma Match Program.

“There’s still a long road ahead though, and the immediate objective is to win the Palermo match, and then the ones with Sassuolo and Empoli.

“We need to take things one game at a time. Right now we’re five points off the top of the League, we have to win our games and not think about others.

“If we do that, we can go far in this campaign.”

After an inconsistent start to the season, the Giallorossi have beaten Inter and Napoli in their past two games.

“The games we won against Inter and Napoli are proof that if we prepare and act in the right way, we can not only play on par with two of the best teams in the League, but dominate them.

“We didn’t only win and defend well, but we dominated the game, holding onto the ball for long periods and forcing the opponent to run and get tired, thus giving us more time and space with the ball.

“Now we know that with the personality and the right mindset we can beat any team in Italy, and I hope we play with that attitude in the next game.

“In both games we were more balanced as a team, we defended pretty well against Inter and very well against Napoli and that made the difference, and when I say that I mean we defended as a team.

“We need to continue on this path in all competitions, we have to stay 100 per cent focused and not lower our concentration and mental toughness.

“The performance against Napoli should be the standard for the upcoming games in Serie A.”
