Wojciech Szczesny insists Juventus are ‘fired up and ready’ for the Derby della Mole against Torino, but admits they ‘lacked that determination and desire to win’ so far this season.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

The Bianconeri have struggled badly this season both domestically and in Europe, so the squad was put into a training retreat after the 2-0 Champions League defeat to Maccabi Haifa.

Juventus are also without an away victory in all competition for six months.

“This week was not up to our standards, but we spent time together at the Continassa training ground, worked hard and we are fired up for the game,” Szczesny told DAZN.

“What we lacked in recent weeks, but also in the first two months of the season, was that determination and desire to win. Hopefully the derby can bring all that out.”

Has this been the goalkeeper’s most difficult period on the Juventus bench?

“We are Juve players, so must be ready for difficult times too and show our quality as men more than our technical abilities on the field.”
