Former Sampdoria coach Dejan Stankovic has been appointed the new manager of Hungarian side Ferencvaros, who will face Fiorentina in the Conference League.

The Serbian spent most of his playing career in Italy at Lazio from 1998 to 2004 and then at Inter until his retirement in 2013.

He became a coach at Red Star Belgrade before leaving in the summer of 2022 and taking on the job at Sampdoria.

Stankovic has now been given the role of coach at Hungarian club Ferencvaros.

It means there will be a return to Italy imminently, because his team will face Fiorentina in the Conference League group phase and visit the Stadio Artemio Franchi on October 5.

The group is completed by KRC Genk and FK Cukaricki.

Ferencvaros are currently sixth in their domestic league.
