“What brings us here is Rui Patricio’s request for termination, and all that brings alarm to Sporting,” he began.

“Sporting have been negotiating with his agent Jorge Mendes, who isn’t here as he’s out of Portugal.
“There was an offer from Napoli. We were debating it, he said there was some interest but then there was the change of Coach and their interest cooled.
“The following offer arrived from Wolverhampton, I believe in written form. As for the €18m, Mendes’ right-hand man called us yesterday to ask if that was our position and suddenly it’s all over the front pages.
“The newspapers are waiting for what the businessman Jorge Mendes says. He wanted more than €7m of the €18m.
“Jorge Mendes wanted to take advantage of the situation, and that’s a crime.”
