Francesco Marroccu has terminated his contract with Genoa and left the position as sporting director of the club. ‘I’ll be remembered as the mast director of the Preziosi era’.

Enrico Preziosi has sold the club to 777 Partners and the changes are already starting to happen at the Grifone.

Coach Davide Ballardini reportedly risks losing his job unless he turns things around immediately, as the Rossoblu have been going through a difficult start to the campaign.

Sporting director Marroccu has left the position in Liguria, signing the mutual consent to terminate the deal this morning and closing his chapter with Genoa, which began in November 2020.

“I will be remembered as the last manager of the Preziosi era, who will certainly be more appreciated over time than during the last period,” Marroccu told Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

“It seemed right to leave now, I’m grateful to Genoa and Preziosi. I wish the new owners good luck.”

Di Marzio reveals the new owners had tried to keep Marroccu in the position, but the Sardinian decided to leave the job.

Genoa sit 16th in the table with five points in seven games and host Sassuolo at Marassi on Sunday.
