The 2-1 win away to Genoa was not enough to take the pressure off this Coach, as the performance was still disappointing and lacking in any clear identity.

According to several sources, Milan are taking the night to ‘reflect’ on Giampaolo’s role and it is increasingly unlikely they will continue to back him.

Sky Sport Italia reporter Peppe Di Stefano claims Milan are not denying the potential dismissal of Giampaolo, which in itself is a bad sign for his situation.

The primary candidates now seem to be two former Inter bosses, Spalletti and Pioli.

Further behind, Rudi Garcia and Claudio Ranieri are in the running.

Marcelino was approached for only initial discussions, but it was decided not to take the matter further.

Sky also note that Gattuso could even return, but it would only be possible if there was a radical change of the current directorial staff, above all Paolo Maldini.

This is not out of the question, because Elliott Management – the US hedge fund who own the club and are based largely in London – are also said to be discussing an overhaul of the directors.
