La Gazzetta dello Sport analyses the ‘frosty’ relationship between Aurelio De Laurentiis and Luciano Spalletti highlighting that it’s reminiscent of 2018 when Maurizio Sarri and Jorginho left the Partenopei and joined Chelsea.

Spalletti seems on the verge of leaving Napoli at the end of the season. All Italian media on Friday claim the relationship between the Tuscan tactician and President De Laurentiis has turned frosty.

Money is not the problem, apparently. Spalletti is unhappy that Napoli formally extended his contract until 2024, informing him with a PEC rather than talking to him in person and didn’t attend a press conference on Thursday to unveil plans for the summer pre-season. ADL didn’t even mention the coach during the meeting with the media.

As highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the situation is reminiscent of the summer of 2018 when Sarri, who had earned 91 points with the Partenopei in the previous campaign, finishing second behind Juventus in Serie A, opted to leave the club amid tension with the club owner.

The Tuscan tactician joined Chelsea alongside Italy international Jorginho who completed a €57m transfer to Stamford Bridge.

‘The current situation is terribly similar,’ wrote Maurizio Nicita. ‘Maurizio Sarri was confirmed against his will and Chelsea had to pay a lot of money to get Jorginho and persuade De Laurentiis to part ways with the coach.’
