The Nerazzurri reached the midway stage of the campaign in third place after 12 wins, five draws and only two defeats, but went out of the Coppa Italia Quarter-Final against Milan.
“If I think that I earned as many points as I did last season (at Roma), then I think that I must aim for more, so I am not happy with my work,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“Certainly, being at Inter is exciting and it creates a real passion inside of you, just looking at the history. We must work to feel ourselves within Inter, to be worthy of Inter, as that can make the difference.
“I look at my own results as well as those of the team, whether I am able to get the best out of my players. I think we’ve done quite well, but are capable of something more. We’ve got to get a move-on in the second half of the season.”
Inter were the only side still unbeaten, but then lost two on the bounce against Udinese and Sassuolo. Was it a psychological issue?
“We have Mauro Icardi, the goal psychologist. He will speak to the team before tomorrow’s training session and he will help find the solution to more team goals,” smiled Spalletti.
The January transfer window has now opened and it remains to be seen if Inter will invest or sell.
“I don’t expect anything and I won’t chain myself to the gates if we don’t sign anybody. I think I have a strong squad, some strong directors who will know how to improve the team if there is the chance. They are like Bono and Bruce Springsteen, they sing the transfer market.”
Yet Spalletti said yesterday after a summit with the directors that he was afraid big players would be sold in this window.
“The issue is that as long as players have a contract, we decide, but when the contract is running down, then the agents are in charge. We will act in sync with the needs of Inter.
“Suning really care about Inter and know we’ve got great potential. Steven Zhang knows what he’s doing and lives here because he wants to improve things at Inter.
“The objective is to always see 65,000 people in the stadium in 2018 and, if we work well, in future at times it’ll hit 80,000. The number of people in the stadium will tell us what we have been able to achieve.”
