Spalletti only took charge of Inter last summer but has presided over a slump in results, while De Vrij has been heavily linked with the Nerazzurri and doubts have been cast over Icardi’s future, with the likes of Real Madrid reportedly interested.

“If I agreed to talk about the market now, it would be like coaching a virtual team,” the former Roma boss told Corriere dello Sport.

“It’s a way to dishearten our players, who are fighting for difficult objectives. De Vrij? He could be the captain of this virtual team.

“Why should Icardi stay? Because this striped shirt is better than all the others that aren’t.

“Having got to know him, he has the character of someone that makes the difference: he’s not someone that likes to change without having… left his mark on the team.

“My future? Stock is taken at the end of the season and that’s when the numbers and analyses come out, which can change anyone’s mind.

“I work every day with the utmost commitment to stay at Inter for as long as possible, maybe even achieving something important.

“Nainggolan? He can adapt to any Coach. The ‘alien’ is made of a different cloth…”
