“We must be demanding of ourselves and recognise we are not yet what we want to become,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“This forces on the one hand not to lower our guard, and on the other to think quicker so we are less predictable. We’ve done many good things, but it’s an issue of timing and you’ve got to be picky when a tenth of a second can make the difference.

“I am seeking greater speed of thought and execution, as every time we take an extra touch, we get lazy and think as individuals rather than a group. We’re doing the right things, so the course is set, but we just need to speed it up a bit.”

Spalletti was asked if he was annoyed at Inter being described as lucky during these first few weeks of the campaign.

“Not at all, everyone can give their own definition. We took the right approach and fortune favours the brave. We must improve our creativity, as football is wild passion and we have to stoke it with wild moments.

“People say that Juventus work less well as a collective compared to Napoli. You know the way the Partenopei play and take counter-measures, but can’t stop them anyway, because they do everything so quickly and precisely. Inter have to be more daring and unpredictable.”

There must also be more inspired service for Mauro Icardi, who seems a little isolated lately.

“The sprint back to block a counter from Mauro against Genoa was worth as much as a goal,” continued Spalletti.

“I do not see an Icardi problem. He usually doesn’t even need clean service, as can create something out of scraps, seeing as he is one of the best goal poachers I’ve ever seen.”

Inter are visiting Benevento, who are yet to manage a single point this season and scored just one goal on the opening weekend.

“Benevento could easily have taken home the win against Torino or gone in front with Roma. When you analyse an opponent, you see everything they could’ve achieved if not for certain details.

“We mustn’t lower our guard and instead need to keep pedalling hard to maintain our advantage. We cannot hold back by even a centimetre, as we only want to get stronger.”
Inter squad for Benevento: Handanovic, Padelli, Berni; Ranocchia, Santon, Miranda, Dalbert, D’Ambrosio, Skriniar, Nagatomo; Gagliardini, Joao Mario, Vecino, Borja Valero, Brozovic; Icardi, Karamoh, Eder, Perisic, Candreva, Pinamonti
