Italy international Emiliano Viviano could return to Serie A for SPAL, ending six months of a Sporting CP nightmare.

The 33-year-old had left Sampdoria for the Portuguese giants at a cost of €2m in July, but the situation precipitated rapidly.

Within days of arriving, the club had sacked Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic and terminated his contract, which is still the subject of legal action.

Sporting changed their President and the new chief no longer wanted Viviano, but the deal was left in place and he has simply not set foot on to the pitch.
