Paulo Sousa asks Fiorentina fans to be patient for the return of Giuseppe Rossi – “we all want to see him at his highest level.”

The striker missed the whole of last season with the latest in a series of knee injuries which have blighted his career, and is being reintroduced slowly this season, with just four appearances so far.

“The frenzy about him is normal for fans who know him and have seen him play at the highest levels,” Sousa admitted in his Press conference ahead of the Lech Poznan game in the Europa League.

“It’s normal, we all want to see him at his highest level. We’re doing well with him, and we believe in him.

“Since Moena [the pre-season training camp] we’ve known that he can return to his level. Now we need an emotional balance, as for many years he’s not been capable of playing the way he can.

“We have to work on this, he’s coming soon and he’ll have much more consistency. Everything we do is an emotion for us, and affects us in one way or another.

“Given the likelihood of injuries, everyone must be balanced, we’re taking positive decisions with him.

“Giving him that balance will not only prevent injuries in the coming months, but also for the coming years.”

Two players who have perhaps not lived up to expectations so far are Khouma Babacar and Jakub Blaszczykowski, but Sousa has the same message of patience.

“Blaszczykowski? He’s as important as everyone else. For us it’s an opportunity that we have him, he wants to work and is available to the team.

“He’s here after a difficult year [suffering a knee injury at Borussia Dortmund] and we’re working on him.

“As for Babacar, we always want to help players improve. It’s clear he has a lot of positive attributes, he’s working hard and getting better.

“[But] He still has to improve compared to where he is today.”
