Wesley Sneijder insists Nice can beat Napoli in the Champions League – “you have to believe”.

The former Inter man has signed for the Ligue 1 side, and he was asked about the Champions League play-off in his presentation today.

“Obviously we have a chance,” Sneijder said, as reported by L’Équipe.

“You have to believe, that’s essential, I always try to explain that to players. In 2010 with Inter we never thought we’d win the Champions League but as we got results we saw it was possible.

Sneijder will reunite with Mario Balotelli at Allianz Riviera, did he consult with the Italian before signing.

“When I make a new start in life, I don’t talk to other players about it. It doesn’t matter.

“All that matters to me is what the Coach and the club say. Life is nice in Nice, of course, but that’s also the case in Istanbul or Milan. I’m here for the project.

“I haven’t just discovered Nice in the past two weeks, but I saw a good collective performance against Ajax. The system and how invested the players were in it pleased me.

“It’s important to be a European side, I’ve told you that I want to keep playing at the highest level.

“There’s a lot of talent in Ligue 1, there’s a lot on my team as well as several youngsters. Names don’t matter to me though, all that matters is the team.

“The spirit is also important to me, that’s one of the things which convinced me to come here. I want to be in a team which wants to play football.

“I’m happy to be here because I see a team that’s happy playing, and we can only succeed as a team.”
