A glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel has appeared for Paul Pogba, who has taken a step forward at Juventus’ training centre.

The 29-year-old Frenchman returned to the Old Lady in the summer after leaving Manchester United on a free transfer, signing a four-year deal with the club, but his plans were immediately derailed after a frustrating knee injury. Pogba underwent an operation in early September and has been sidelined ever since, forcing him to miss out on the World Cup in Qatar.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Pogba has started running on the pitch at Juventus’ training centre in Continassa, taking a small step forward as he works to return to action.

The French midfielder has been working in the gym and swimming pool in recent weeks and will be happy to have made a return to the pitch, even if he is simply running.

The next phase of Pogba’s recovery will see him work to regain his strength and muscle endurance, a period that is expected to last around three weeks. He is hoping to be fit enough to take part in Juventus’ clash with Napoli on January 13.

Evelina Christillin, UEFA member of the FIFA Council, spoke about Pogba to Tuttosport, giving fans hope that the Frenchman would be returning to action soon.

“I had already seen Pogba in the stands in the first half, but he was talking to President Macron and I did not want to disturb them.

“At half-time, however, I found him sitting alone in the lounge. So I approached him and asked him in French how he was. He replied with a smile ‘I’m much better, I’m ready to come back in January’. I saw him in great shape, kind, affable with everyone.”
