The young centre-back joined the Nerazzurri from Sampdoria last summer and has excelled at the heart of Luciano Spalletti’s defence.

His performances have led to speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona.

However, with Inter back in the Champions League, Skriniar insists he is ‘very happy’ at the San Siro and will not rule out emulating his Slovakia teammate Hamsik – who has become an icon at Napoli since joining the Partenopei 11 years ago.

“I am happy in Milan with Inter, nothing else matters,” the 23-year-old told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I don’t know what’s going on in the market and I won’t talk about it either.

“I don’t know whether Barcelona or other clubs want me. I am serious, none of it interests me.

“I only have Inter in my head.”

Asked whether he would therefore consider committing the best part of his career to the Nerazzurri, Skriniar responded positively.

“It’s not impossible. I see my friend Marek Hamsik, who has become an icon at Napoli.

“Why can’t the same thing happen for me at Inter?

“I am very happy here and there is no reason to think about leaving.”

The Slovakian has won plaudits around Europethis season, but he was keen to point out the contributions made by his fellow defenders as Inter secured a top four finish in Serie A.

“Of course, the compliments make me happy, but we can’t forget great players like Ranocchia and Miranda, as well as the other defenders who have always responded on the pitch.

“Inter showed in the season that has just finished that the group makes the difference.

“That is the true added quality that enabled us to finally get into the Champions League.

“It was important to get back into the Champions League after so many years, it was everyone’s target – the team, Coach, club and fans.”
