Genoa boss Alberto Malesani has asked his club for a specific Christmas gift – Roma midfielder Fabio Simplicio.

The Brazilian, formerly of Palermo, is expected to leave the Italian capital in January after struggling to break into the Roma first team.

The central midfielder, 32, has been used in just four League games by Giallorossi boss Luis Enrique this term.

“Simplicio is a player who would be very useful for us,” Malesani stated. “He would give us some real experience in the middle.

“If we want to step up to the next level then we will need this type of player, an individual who would also be able to help our youngsters.”

Simplicio, who has been in Italy since 2004, has also been linked with a return to Parma – the club who initially brought him to the peninsula seven years ago.
