Milan legend Andriy Shevchenko says that he is ‘proud of his people and country’ as Ukraine prepares for a possible war with Russia.

Vladimir Putin has ordered troops into Ukraine and said this morning that Russia’s interests are ‘not negotiable.’

“Our country is always open for direct and honest dialogue, for the search for diplomatic solutions to the most complex problems,” he said.

“The interests of Russia, the security of our citizens, are non-negotiable for us.”

Putin’s decisions are causing concern all over the world. Evidence suggests Russia is planning “the biggest war in Europe since 1945”, England Prime Minister Boris Johnson said a few days ago.

While his country is on the brink of war, former Milan and Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko shared a message on social media to show his support towards his compatriots.

“Ukraine is my motherland! I have always been proud of my people and my country,” he wrote on Twitter.

“We have gone through many difficult times, and over the past 30 years we have formed as a nation! A nation of sincere, hardworking and freedom-loving citizens. This is our most important asset! Today is a difficult time for all of us. But we must unite! In unity, we will win! Glory to Ukraine!”

Shevchenko spent eight seasons at Milan, scoring 175 goals in 322 appearances. He only managed 22 goals in 77 appearances with the Blues. He returned to Italy as a coach in November to take charge of Genoa.

However, he never won at Marassi and was sacked in January after collecting just three points in ten Serie A games.

  1. Hopefully peace can be achieved in this troubled part of the world without any further atrocities. Just maybe this decision by the Russian government can restore some acceptable level of law and order? There can be no denying, however, that the attempted Genocide of eastern Ukrainians by the western supported Ukrainian Neo Nazi’s required an intervention.

  2. @keefo, this is one reason why politics is the greatest problem of humanity.. One can not tell who is actually doing the right thing and who is lying, the Media belongs to the most powerful and we see only what they want us to see.
    May God help us all🙏🏾🙏🏾
