Olivier Giroud insists Milan ‘have won nothing yet’ and is happy to play in Italy, where the cuisine ‘is almost as good as in France.’

The Serie A giants are the table leaders with a two-point lead over Napoli and Inter, but the Nerazzurri have a game in hand.

Giroud, scorer of ten goals in 24 appearances with Milan this term, warns his teammates that the race to win the title is not over yet.

“We must find until the end, we’ve won nothing yet,” he told GQ Magazine, as quoted by Milannews.

“Milan have always been one of the most important clubs in the world and one must always aim for the top when wearing this shirt. I’ve always thought that this a good team, with a nice mix of young and experienced players.

“Stefano Pioli is pushing us to give our best. We are aware of our qualities and we’ll do our best to give satisfaction to our fans.”

Giroud has only scored at San Siro this season. Eight goals in home games and two in the derby against Inter, which, on paper, was an away fixture for the Rossoneri. Giroud scored a brace in three minutes, helping Milan snatch a crucial win.

“We knew we hadn’t played well in the second half, but when we returned after the break, we were sure that we could have turned the game around. The derby is a special match, it gives you incredible adrenaline. It was a great emotion to score under our Curva.”

Why did he join Milan from Chelsea in the summer?

“A lot of great Frenchmen played here and many football legends: van Basten, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Sheva…

“The first time I spoke to Paolo Maldini on FaceTime was a strong emotion. He is a legend of the great Milan. He embodies the club’s class. Milan are a top club and I understand it every day. The organization is fantastic and Milanello is amazing. There is everything to work well and give the best on the pitch.

“Both my grandmothers were Italian and I am proud of my roots,” he continued.

“Playing here and living in Italy with my family makes me very happy. I love this country, its tradition and, of course, Italian cuisine. It’s almost as good as the French.”
