Andriy Shevchenko oversaw his first training session this afternoon as the new coach of Genoa after replacing Davide Ballardini.

The former Milan striker and ex-Ukraine national team manager took the job on Sunday, signing a contract to June 2024.

He arrived in Genoa yesterday and this afternoon was the first session at the Gianluca Signorini training centre in Pegli.

Sheva’s debut on the Serie A bench will be against Jose Mourinho’s Roma on Sunday November 21, after the break for international duty.

  1. It’s strange to see Sheva in Genoa! But all the best to the old bean. It’s good to see a club from Genoa finally showing a hint of ambition again + although I sincerely doubt it, it may even give Samp’s owners a kick up the backside to sell or improve? When I was a young lad 👴the Genoa Derby was arguably the 2nd biggest after Milan in terms of competition. Samp were always in the top 6 or 7 + were champions in ’91 whilst Genoa were 4th + Uefa/Europa 1/2 finalist’s the season after. Don Hutchison has said it about 4 times now about playing at Marassi in the CWC in ’92 for Liverpool against Genoa? But it was the Uefa Cup dude! I know it’s that match he mean’s as he mention’s Branco scoring, on the way to a 4-1 agg win for Genoa. That’s how far ahead of the EPL, Serie A was! That’s a history lesson for the kids who think that the EPL is entitled to “rule.” The pendulum always swings back + forth. They don’t even need the exact same £quillion’£ as the EPL, as in general Italy has better homegrown coaches, technique + tactics. The clubs only need to be allowed to reach their full potential, off the pitch as well + Serie A will be at least a top 3 league again. These new owners are making steps in the right direction. They seem respectful of Italy’s footballing heritage, so it’s a bit galling to see the authorities seemingly block new owners at every turn! The Franchi looks to be in a desperate state of disrepair + it seem’s that the authorities use planning laws to care for “architectural heritage,” when in truth they just want to protect their revenue from match-day income. Yet now the San Siro seems unworthy of the same consideration! Ah? The splendid hypocrises of Bureaucratic Law. 😊We’ll follow our own rules when it suits us! How is the Franchi more relevant of “heritage” status than the San Siro??? If they want to save the Franchi’s architecture so badly, that they won’t allow any outside tinkering of it’s appearance, then save it as a semi-retired, museum piece, 💒 make minor adjustments to make it safe + let the youth + women’s teams play there or something? Then that will allow Fiorentina to build a new ground elsewhere! There was all that debate over the San Siro but there’s huge commercial areas with skyscrapers being built in Milan every other day! Fiorentina have also built a new training complex so space isn’t that limited by the remain’s of divine comedies! But good luck to Sheva + 777.
