The Swiss winger joined the Nerazzurri in January from Bayern Munich, but the Nerazzurri have failed to spark into life, sitting 10th in Serie A.

“I feel good physically, and I’m happy in Milan,” Shaqiri assured in a Press conference ahead of the Milan derby.

“We haven’t had the best of seasons, but our goal is to return to the glories of the past, and to be back in the Champions League, the natural home of Inter.

“The fans are important to us, not just for the derby, but for our eventual return to Europe. They’re special, and we need them.

“The primary thing we need to focus on is the mental side, we have to be a side which takes to the pitch with motivation, instilling fear and respect into our opponents.

“We have a lot of good players, we have to flip a mental switch return to being a power in Italy as well as in Europe.”

Shaqiri then gave his opinions on what it is that Inter have been lacking this season.

“I don’t know exactly, but what I’d say is that if a top player with experience were to arrive, that would help us bridge the gap which we’ve seen in some games.

“I don’t know what will happen, but [Coach Roberto] Mancini has a clear idea of what to do. A couple of high level additions would help us.”
