As reported by calciomercato.com, Italy is entitled to six European places under its current coefficient ranking.

This is made up of two automatic Champions League places, one Champions League qualifying round place and three Europa League slots.

At the moment fourth and fifth in Serie A qualify for the latter competition, as well as the Coppa Italia winners, with sixth also qualifying if the cup winners are already in Europe.

The website reports that Infantino has stated that there is no provision for Italy being awarded another European place, whatever happens in the Europa League.

The winners of the competition would be granted automatic entry to the Champions League group stages, giving Italy four representatives in that tournament.

However, Serie A would still only be entitled to six European places, meaning that only two clubs would qualify for the Europa League – the fifth-placed team and the Coppa Italia winners, with sixth qualifying if the Coppa winners are in Europe.

Calciomercato states that this means there is no circumstance where seventh place would grant entry to the Europa League.
