The Granata missed Andrea Belotti, Tommaso Pobega, Armando Izzo, Dennis Praet and Mohamed Fares. Spezia had to do without Ebrima Colley and Leo Sena.

It was the perfect start for the hosts, as Martin Erlic brought down Antonio Sanabria and Sasa Lukic kept his cool from the penalty spot.

Ivan Provedel made a desperate save on Demba Seck’s strike after Nikolaou was shaken off by step-overs and from the resulting corner Wilfried Singo nodded onto the side-netting.

Erlic deflected the Marko Pjaca strike wide after another strong Lukic recovery and attack, while Provedel rushed off his line to deny Sanabria one-on-one.

Lukic doubled both his tally and Torino’s lead when David Zima’s header from a corner was charged down, landing at the feet of the midfielder to smash into the roof of the net from just inside the box.

Sanabria had the ball in the net in stoppages, but was evidently offside.

Deep into stoppages, Rey Manaj was brought down by Koffi Djidji and initially flagged offside, but VAR showed he was in play, so the striker converted a powerful consolation penalty.
