The big Dutchman was always in the action, blocking several shots and especially alert to hold on to Ezequiel Schelotto’s header. Also showed his agility when tipping Luca Cigarini’s strike around the post to safety. Alert.

A rock at the back and smothered Rolando Bianchi at every turn. Got up field on several occasions and on one of them his shot was handled with Nene converting the winning goal. Forceful.
Walter Samuel [Inter]
The Wall is back with a capital W, inspiring a hard win with his almost total control in the centre. Showed his determination when converting Esteban Cambiasso’s cross. Also blocked a certain goal from Riccardo Montolivo. Purposeful.
Federico Fernandez [Napoli]
Took over captain Paolo Cannavaro’s role, not that you would have noticed, as he showed he was more than capable in the centre. His performance was best defined by his perfect sliding tackle to rob Andrea Lazzari. Immoveable.
Javier Zanetti [Inter]
Showed his usual versatility by operating in both right flank roles. In the first half attacking and in the second an out and out full-back, but still controlled any action coming down Milan’s left. Flexible.
Marek Hamsik [Napoli]
Always in control and his constant probing with and without the ball made him a thorn in Udinese’s” data-scaytid=”22″>Udinese’s side. Opened the scoring with determination, blended with aggression and pure skill, as he slotted it past the ‘keeper. Articulate.
Hernanes [Lazio” data-scaytid=”24″>Lazio]
Went close early on and was superb throughout. Opened the scoring with an absolute pearl of a free-kick that screamed over the wall and past a flapping Mattia Perin. Clever.
Claudio Marchisio [Juventus” data-scaytid=”28″>Juventus]
Man of the Match and continually tested Siena ‘keeper Gianluca Pegolo with a series of shots. Showed the extent of his ability with some perfect passing, running and intelligent positioning. Finally got his rewards with a fabulous strike. Gifted.
Santiago Garcia [Palermo]
The Italo-Argentine hit the ground running down the left flank, especially in the first half when after beating Juraj Kucka he helped set up Luigi Giorgi’s goal. Showed aggression when needed and continually pushed forward. Determined.
Francesco Totti [Roma]
Once again a real captain’s performance as he led the way with his organisation. Only Andrea Consigli’s bravery in goal stopped two almost certain goals. Also made Erik Lamela’s fine goal with a perfect pass. Inspiring.
Miroslav Klose [Lazio]
Despite the opposition defence being listless, you can only beat what is put in front of you and Klose the killer certainly did that twice. His second goal saw him perfectly placed as he dodged Christian Terlizzi to head home easily. Bright.
