It is now official that Serie A will introduce semi-automatic offside technology from the second half of this season, so after January 27, 2023.

The new technology was already in use during the Qatar World Cup and is meant to speed up the process of VAR checking for offside positions.

There will initially be offline tests in the IBC centre in Lissone, near Milan, which is where the VAR hub is located for all of Italian football.

After that, it will be used in Serie A matches from Week 20 in the 2022-23 campaign, which kicks off on January 27.

It was announced by FIGC President Gabriele Gravina following a meeting with the AIA (Italian Referees Association).
