Cagliari coach Leonardo Semplici reveals Nahitan Nandez has apologised to the club and will be available against Spezia tomorrow.
The Sardinians begin the season at home against Thiago Motta’s side tomorrow.
“They’re a good team and with a valuable coach. We will face a good team with values, so we’ll need to be extremely focused,” Semplici said at a press conference.
“I want to see the right mentality, we must suffer when we have to, but also attack when needed. We must create trouble for them,” he continued.
“I faced Thiago Motta’s Genoa and I immediately noticed the coach’s hand.
“Spezia have enthusiasm and even the fact of not having pressure may not necessarily be a disadvantage, they may be unpredictable. The important thing will be our spirit, our competitive wickedness.”
Semplici was asked what he expects in the last week of the summer transfer window with Diego Godin and Nahitan Nandez who have been tipped to leave and Alberto Grassi who has joined the Sardinians.
“I have made some requests to make the team competitive, the club has spent a lot of money in these years and this particular moment prevents us from making big investments,” the coach said.
“I know the world of football really well, but I know the club have a budget. I am an employee and our decisions must be shared.
“I may have dreamt about different players, but I am a realist. My players are the best in the world and we are ready to start the new season with pride and the desire to do better than last season.
“We all want a competitive team, but we must make a virtue of necessity. Right now, I am only focused on the game against Spezia.
“Diego [Godin] had an economic problem, not a technical one, and he is a Cagliari player. Grassi will join the team because I want him to start adapting. He’s made a few training sessions, so we’ll see if he can play. Nahitan will join the team too. He spoke to the president and apologised, so he will be with us tomorrow.”
