Atalanta are now in pole position to sign Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta as La Dea has decided to sign the player on a permanent deal, it’s reported.

The former Genoa loanee seemed to be on the verge of joining Fiorentina on an initial loan deal, but according to Sky Sport journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Atalanta are now in pole position to secure his services.

La Dea, in fact, are open to signing the player on loan, while La Viola would have signed the 29-year-old on an initial loan deal.

Zappacosta spent the last season on loan at Genoa, scoring four goals in 25 appearances with Il Grifone.

It will be his third spell in Bergamo, where he has already played in 2011 and in the 2014-15 campaign when he scored three goals in 30 appearances.

Zappacosta had joined Chelsea from Torino for €25m in 2017. He made his senior Italy debut in 2016 and has 13 appearances with the Azzurri.
