Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli has suffered a muscle injury and could miss the rest of the season.

The Italian defender picked up the problem against Sassuolo in Serie A Week 35, when the Rossoneri won 2-1 at the Mapei Stadium.

Romagnoli is set to miss the next match against Atalanta on Friday but looks set to be ruled out for the three games remaining of Milan’s season.

Coach Stefano Pioli, who has been confirmed to remain at the helm until June 2022, continues without suspended Ismael Bennacer and Theo Hernandez too.

“Romagnoli had a muscle problem that will almost certainly leave him out for the remaining games, Pioli told Milan TV. “I’m very sorry because we were playing well and Alessio had played all the minutes of the championship with quality.”
