The 2-1 defeat to Milan all but ended the hopes of European football next term and Rogerio admitted the setback hurt the players at the Mapei Stadium.

“I would have liked to comment on a different match,” Rogerio told Sky Sport Italia. “We are sorry because it was important to us. We wanted to reach an extraordinary goal.

“But we have the right spirit, that of those who are always looking for a positive result.”

Now, the Brazilian is focused on keeping their position in Serie A.

“We can’t give up, despite having to face some difficult matches. We will be able to keep eighth place.”

Mehdi Bourabia was sent of before half-time and the Neroverdi were left battling with 10 men for the last 45 minutes against the Diavolo.

“When a team remain in 10, everyone must bring out something extra to replace those who have been sent off.

“We wanted to win and we’re sorry we didn’t succeed. Unexpected situations occurred during the game, now we must think about Napoli and forget about Milan. We want to win the next one.”

Sassuolo travel to Naples on Saturday.
