According to Sky Sport Italia, Schalke 04 defender Malick Thiaw will be in Italy tomorrow in preparation for his Milan medical.

There had already been reports from multiple sources today that negotiations with Schalke were stepping up significantly after Chelsea decided against letting Trevoh Chalobah leave on loan with option to buy.

Thiaw quickly emerged as the favourite ahead of Japhet Tanganga of Tottenham Hotspur, who again would be a very expensive loan with option to buy deal.

Instead, 21-year-old Thiaw is available on a permanent transfer for just €5-6m including add-ons.

It’s reported he will fly in on Sunday and have his medical to complete the transfer by Monday.

The Germany Under-21 international only turned 21 earlier this month and also brings versatility to Stefano Pioli’s side, as he can play as a centre-back, a right-back or a defensive midfielder.

Milan had other issues to consider too, such as the fact Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori are first choices with Simon Kjaer recovering from injury, so wanted a young prospect to challenge for a place.

  1. His team conceded 6 goals today and he played!

He’s young and cheap so not much could go wrong I guess.

  2. @Plastic strunz.

Did you see the schalke game? of course you didn’t. But no, you still have to impart on this page you generalising and cliched nonsense.

  3. I’m not sure what people are on about here, Thiaw is a prospect and exciting at that. He’s here as 4th/5th choice.

  4. @ Rosario Could you imagine Gabba had played in the at match? He’d have his contract cancelled.

@ Kam The issue is that this guy will be replacing Gabbia and it shows the double standards applied to non-youth products. We’re so desperate to get rid of Gabbia that we’ll sign anyone to replace him.
