Milan president Paolo Scaroni discussed the club’s economic health, their development over the last few years and goal of sustainability.

The Rossoneri have recovered from their negative spell in the last decade, which saw them fall down a level following their triumphs at the start of the 21st century. The team won the Scudetto last season and have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League this campaign, results reflective of their incredible growth over the last few years.

Milan are now working on a new stadium project and are preparing to invest in the summer to help them close the gap to Napoli, keen to take back the Scudetto after a difficult season.

Speaking to Radio Rai, Scaroni first discussed his time as Milan president and their growth in that period.

“I became president of Milan in 2018 and we have made a truly fantastic progression. We reached the Europa League in 2019-20, the Champions League in 2020-21, last season we won the league and now, after so many years, we are in the semi-finals of the Champions League.”

He also spoke about the club’s financial health and their goals for the upcoming years.

‘We can be very satisfied with the sporting results, but also with the economic results, which are also starting to give us satisfaction. I am of the opinion that if you don’t achieve economic results, it is difficult to achieve sporting ones.

“This year’s goal is to have a positive budget. Our turnover has increased a lot, we will exceed €350m. Our revenues are growing, I hope this is the year when our figures will be positive. The last time Milan had a positive result was in 2006, really many years ago.”

Finally, Scaroni discussed Napoli’s impressive work this season, both on and off the pitch.

“They’ve had phenomenal results from both points of view. Sporting but also economic, they made a buying campaign last summer where they cashed in and did not spend heavily.

“They’ve made some formidable purchases, they have a great coach, I give my compliments to Aurelio De Laurentiis, he is the one who has managed this whole operation, starting from when he bought Napoli many years ago, at a time when they were relegated to around bankruptcy.”
