Sassuolo owner Giorgio Squinzi warns he is “not entirely convinced by Roberto De Zerbi, Khouma Babacar” or their defenders this season.

The Neroverdi are set to finish comfortably mid-table, but it’s not enough to satisfy the club patron, who reserved particular criticism for his Coach and centre-forward.

“We need a strong striker, like Simone Zaza and Gregoire Defrel, who both played for us,” Squinzi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I am not convinced by Babacar and I’m not entirely convinced on De Zerbi either. I like him, but he should really work on our defending more. While I am also waiting on finally getting to see Gianluca Scamacca on the field.

“I don’t think we replaced Francesco Acerbi properly, we need a defender like him. Lazio’s good season is down to him, I consider him the best Italian defender, even if no-one else realises yet.”

The 31-year-old defender joined the Biancocelesti from Sassuolo last summer in a deal worth around €10.5m after spending five years at the Mapei Stadium.
