The Neroverdi yesterday renewed the contract of star striker Simone Zaza, in the wake of growing links with a return to Juventus, who still hold a buyback clause for this summer.
In spite of this, though, the club’s duel director general and administrative delegate has hinted that Zaza's future is very much open.
“It's true that we created a synergy with Juventus that goes beyond the Centro Mapei Sport,” Carnevali has told the Gazzetta dello Sport today.
“Zaza's future depends on it. We have acquired the player's full ownership and Juve have a first option to buy him back, as well as half of [Domenico] Berardi.
“But that's as far as it goes. Sassuolo follow their own path and their own interests without favouring anyone. We have an excellent relationship with other clubs as well.
“We extended [Zaza's] contract until 2019. I won't talk about numbers, we made a strong investment on Simone [approximately €1m a year] and we did it all ourselves when Juve could have stepped in.
“His call-up for the national team validates our work and gives visibility and consistency to our project.”
Other rumours from the Gazzetta suggest that Sassuolo Coach Eusebio Di Francesco may move to Fiorentina in the summer, and Carnevali seemed to appreciate that.
“We're happy that Eusebio should be at the centre of such flattering rumours, we're not against them. On the contrary, we experience them positively.
“But we have a contract with him until 2016 and there's a long-term project that he's the main architect of. I reckon we'll go on together.”
