Davide Frattesi admits he has a love-hate relationship with his coach Alessio Dionisi and ‘didn’t expect’ to be the best scorer for Sassuolo after 11 games.

The Italy international scored his fourth goal this season in a 2-1 win over Hellas Verona tonight.

He has already equalled last season’s tally when he netted the same number of goals in 36 appearances.

“It was an important game for us; this is a crucial win for our season,” Frattesi told DAZN.

The product of Roma academy had argued with his coach during the game as Dionisi wanted him to play close to the attacking trident rather than dropping deep to collect the ball.

“Yes, with the coach is love and hate,” Frattesi said, smiling. “We had tried this in training, he was right to demand me to stay up there. I did it more in the second half, end eventually, I scored.

“I feel more freedom this season even if I scored four in the Girone d’Andata last season and then I stopped. Now I must continue. As I said, we need consistency and ambition, trying to win as many games as possible.”
