Juventus directors could go on trial for allegations of false accounting and false communications to the market while the Judge of Preliminary Investigations rejected the request of home detention for President Andrea Agnelli.

Turin Prosecutor Anna Maria Loreto informed Juventus’ board members and directors with ‘strategic responsibilities’ about the end of preliminary investigations that began in 2021 regarding alleged false accounting and false communications to the market.

Loreto revealed through a press statement that the Judge of Preliminary Investigations rejected the request for home detention for President Andrea Agnelli.

The Bianconeri are being investigated for suspicious transfers with inflated values in order to gain capital gains. Investigators looked into financial statements for 2018, 2019 and 2020.

There are 16 people investigated, including Pavel Nedved, Agnelli, Maurizio Arrivabene and former chief Fabio Paratici, who joined Tottenham in 2021 but was in charge of Juventus’ transfers back then.

Juventus are accused of falsifying their financial statements and the prosecutor has highlighted a substantial gap between the ‘real’ figures and those declared by the club.

Investigators also aim to prove that Juventus players didn’t give up to four months’ wages in March 2020, at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, but only missed one and continued to receive money, contrary to what Juventus, one of the clubs listed on the stock market, had communicated.

The Prosecutor claims in an official statement that investigators found ‘private agreements’ between players and the club where Juventus assured they would ‘unconditionally’ pay the remaining wages even in case of a future transfer.

Cristiano Ronaldo was still a Juventus player then, but according to La Stampa, the Manchester United striker refused to discuss his situation despite a request from the Prosecutor.
