When Sassuolo travelled to San Siro to face Milan, they found themselves hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, but that 5-2 win has inspired Alessio Dionisi’s side.

The season was looking grim for the Neroverdi in the final week of January, when they sat just five points above the relegation zone in 17th place.

Things were clearly not clicking in Reggio Emilia and Dionisi’s team looked at risk of being sucked into a battle to avoid the drop to Serie B, making an away trip to Milan a scary prospect.

Sassuolo rose to the occasion that afternoon and returned home with a 5-2 win over Milan, a result that has helped the Neroverdi turn their season around.

Since taking to the pitch against Milan, Sassuolo have picked up 16 points across the last seven league matches, putting them second in points gained in that period, Opta Paolo highlights.

Roma were the latest team to suffer from Sassuolo’s resurgence, falling in a tough 4-3 loss at the Stadio Olimpico.
