“We won a game that we thoroughly deserved to win. It had seemed cursed, as we had 31 shots on goal, missed a penalty, hit the woodwork. It was one of those classic games where the team does everything right and the ball won’t go in,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.
“However, at the end they kept pushing and the logical conclusion was to win the match. It was an injustice to be losing, so getting it back under control felt like the logical conclusion.
“The team creates so very much, but our final choices aren’t always the right ones and some fatigue can happen this late into the season.
“We want to win when we step on to the pitch, no matter where we are or who we are up against. We played well and I am happy that we continued creating chances to the end, which wasn’t easy in this heat.
“I have to thank the fans, because without them, we would not have won the match. When we got the equaliser, the Stadio San Paolo turned into a cauldron and we rode that wave.
“I am particularly pleased that the goals were scored by Milik and Diawara. Every time Milik steps on to the field, he makes us realise how disastrous his double injury was for us.
“Diawara struggled a little throughout the campaign, just like all young players will do, but lately he’s been smiling again and back to his usual self.
“I am fired up and happy to have given these fans the victory. Against a side in the bottom half of the table, they packed the stands and we have to be grateful.”
