Maurizio Sarri plays down Napoli’s hopes of challenging for the Scudetto after a seventh straight Serie A win.

The Partenopei continued their 100 per cent start to the domestic season with a routine 3-0 victory over Cagliari this afternoon.

However, when asked about his side’s chances of winning their first League title since 1990, the former Empoli boss expressed his belief that rivals Juventus are stronger than ever.

“In order for us to fight for it, it depends on others,” Sarri told his post-match Press conference.

However, when asked about his side’s chances of winning their first League title since 1990, the former Empoli boss expressed his belief that rivals Juventus are stronger than ever.

“In order for us to fight for it, it depends on others,” Sarri told his post-match Press conference.

“Every year people say we will fight for it, then Juventus win and they are stronger than ever.

“This year, Juve are better than the six previous years they won the Scudetto.”

Sarri added that he enjoyed Napoli’s performance this afternoon.

“In the second half we played in a way that I enjoyed, with technique and speed.

“I still think there are ways in which we can improve.”

The tactician, however, could not hide his disappointment at the upcoming international break and hopes his side can continue to build momentum upon their return.

“It’s been an even shorter period, 40 days [since the last break], so we can’t be certain.

“We need continuity in our attention without losing those moments that can cost you points.”

Sarri was asked whether he would be asking BelgiumCoach Roberto Martinez to rest star man Dries Mertens, with the country already guaranteed qualification for next summer’s World Cup.

“I won’t let myself do that. At the most I will tell him how Dries is, but it’s been three days I’ve been trying to contact him and I haven’t managed to.”
