Sampdoria President Marco Lanna, a former teammate of Gianluca Vialli, wants to organise a charity tournament with Juventus, Cremonese and Chelsea to honour the ex-striker.

Vialli died this morning in London, aged 58. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017.

A former striker of Sampdoria, Cremonese, Juventus and Chelsea, Vialli accomplished incredible feats in his career, including winning the Serie A title with the Bucerchiati, the only one in the club’s history, and the Champions League with Juventus.

Lanna, who played with Vialli at Marassi, wants to honour the memory of his friend and former teammate with a charity tournament.

“I want to organise a friendly tournament with Chelsea, Cremonese, Sampdoria and Juventus and donate the proceeds to charity,” he told Sky Sport.

“Sampdoria have always been in his heart. He would often call me to know how things were going and the internal dynamics. He always had a solid bond with this club.”

Vialli scored 141 goals in 328 appearances with the Blucerchiati before joining Juventus in the summer of 1992.

Vialli’s funeral will be held in London on Monday in a strictly private form.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri held a minute’s silence before today’s press conference at the Allianz Stadium and the same will happen over the weekend before the kick-off of every Serie A match.
