Sampdoria Coach Marco Giampaolo says his side will need “a great performance” to get anything from Napoli tomorrow.

Sampdoria Coach Marco Giampaolo says his side will need “a great performance” to get anything from Napoli tomorrow.

The Blucerchiati haven’t won a Serie A game since beating Juventus on November 19, and they face the league leaders at the San Paolo this weekend.

“You have to choose what kind of attitude to play with,” Giampaolo explained in his pre-match Press conference.

“Napoli’s strength means there isn’t too much to decide, they’re a team that dominates you in the game so you need to adjust to that. What we can do is be brave in our attitude.

“It’s a fascinating match because Napoli are a strong team. I’ve said recently that the past few weeks were a bit dirty because we were playing every three days, but this week I’ve had comforting signals from the team.

“The lads looked bright and carefree, so I have to say that this week has been beautiful as far as I’m concerned. Now we have to play a good game against a team which knows how to put you in trouble.

“Maybe Sampdoria can repeat the performance from the San Paolo last year [a 2-1 defeat], it was a great match where we did everything well.

“I’d be very happy if Samp could repeat that performance, even better if it’s 11 v 11.

“When Napoli came here though they were invincible. I wasn’t expecting that Napoli last year, now I know what to expect.

“Samp have to put in a very good performance collectively.”
