Sampdoria midfielder Tomas Rincon is the latest player to be the victim of a home robbery, with reports €100,000 of items were stolen.

The Venezuela international was not at home at the time of the attack from an organised gang in Genoa.

According to initial reports, the robbery was last night and several luxury watches and items of jewellery were stolen, along with a substantial sum of cash.

The problem of football players and coaches being targeted by thieves is becoming increasingly common, not just in Italy, but throughout Europe.

Rincon was not going to be involved in Sampdoria’s trip to Empoli on Monday anyway, as he is sitting out a ban following his red card against Napoli.

The 35-year-old spent most of his career in Italy, first arriving for Genoa in 2014, going on to play for Juventus, Torino and Sampdoria.

So far this season, he has made 19 appearances for the Blucerchiati between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, providing two assists.
